Why do we need to respect differences?
As soon as I was given the subject, I felt like the need to point out to avoid any misleading that might be caused by the definition of “Differences” in the phrase. The person or people who thought of giving the debate topic in the sentence didn’t intend to mean the “GAP” among people, but to point the “NOT RESEMBLEING” each other. The reason being noted, I would like to explain why we need to respect the term “NOT RESEMBLEING” each other. Further, from my understanding of the subject, the trait lies in the mindset such as mind, ability, attitude, effort, and etc.
The first reason is that the mindset has been inherited from respected ancestors. We couldn’t easily assume how they went through their lives, but I am pretty certain that they had striven their hearts out to make a living and educate their children. It is undeniable that we should respect the fact.
The second reason is that given the mindset, we have been pouring endless effort to build up our own difference even from our ancestors and from other people as well. It is a respectable point that we are living a very competitive society that is much more competitive than in the past, but we are making undeniable evidence that we are building up to have our own distinctive difference by pouring endless effort.
The last reason is that difference is a great motive that drives us to put more and more effort. Assuming that there were difference at all among people, and then there would be no reason to try hard to be better or get higher. So to speak, since there is a precious opportunity to be different from others, we are pursuing to be different because it might get a result in earning higher grades, ranks, position, scores, money figures, and so on.
Frankly speaking, it was the first serious time for me to give much thought to the subject. The process wasn’t easy at all, but it was worth trying, and I felt it instantly. I feel grateful to the teachers for providing me such a precious time to put a deeper thought about the subject. In fact, I want to make a good chance to make myself reminding of the reasons stated above and make my life lessons to correct myself to keep moving forward in my life.
